airberlin topbonus includes economy light fare miles

Airberlin topbonus program

From 1 March 2017, flights in every airberlin fare, including previously excluded economy light, will count towards reaching and maintaining airberlin topbonus status.
Domestic flights with airberlin will earn 125 topbonus miles and others 250. In comparison, airberlin economy classic fare flight earns four times more miles.

It does not seem as much, but every mile counts! In some cases it might help to reach or maintain top tier Silver and Gold airberlin top bonus statuses.

Remember, the current situation with airberlin is quite shaky, and it’s not unlikely that airberlin can go bankruptcy. It’s highly recommended to use airberlin topbonus miles as soon as possible.

New Eventyr Lounge in Copenhagen airport CPH

Copenhagen Kastrup airport and Menzies just announced new Eventyr Lounge is now opened in Non-Schengen Peer C (mostly long-haul outside of EU flights).

Eventyr Lounge in CPH

As it is a contracted lounge, it does not belong directly to any of the three major airline alliances. So far, it is only British Airways that has an agreement with Eventyr Lounge, while other airlines are discussing cooperation.

The lounge is a nice addition to Kastrup airport, which is also undergoing expansion to bring a new terminal for increasing passengers traffic. Currently long-haul Peer C serves 36 different routes and had a limited relaxation area.

Access to Eventyr Lounge

Passengers flying with British Airways can access Eventyr Lounge.

Unfortunately, it is less likely that SAS will provide access to this lounge in Peer C, where all SAS flights to USA and Asia are leaving from. Star Alliance members will continue to use SAS Business and Gold lounges right before passport control of Peer C.

Anyone can pay to enter Eventyr Lounge for 250 DKK, or roughly 30€ per person.

Singapore’s KrisFlyer update: awards miles increased and taxes removed

Singapore Airlines are changing KrisFlyer award flights redemption schema. Starting from 23rd of March, Singaporean is eliminating “Saver” awards and 15% miles discount on award flights booked online.

At the same time, it also eliminates carrier YQ surcharges, which are usually known as fuel surcharge.

Singapore KrisFlyer award redemption change

Changes at glance:

  • Various award rates increase depending on travel zones
  • No more 15% KrisFlyer miles discount for booking online
  • No more fuel YQ surcharges for all Singaporean Airlines and SilkAir award flight

These changes are controversial, with many considering them to be very negative.

Given that KrisFlyer miles are estimated to be worth approx 0.13 EUR per mile, Singapore First Class flight from Singapore to Frankfurt will increase in miles by 15 000 miles (around 190 EUR), while you wouldn’t have to pay more than 370 EUR in YQ fuel surcharges.

Depending how easily you accumulate KrisFlyer miles, for travels between Europe and Singapore with the new redemption schema you, actually, might be saving few hundred euros per trip.

You can compare old and new KrisFlyer award charts yourself and use Google ITA Matrix to check YQ charges and decide is it such a negative, or actually positive change from Singapore Airlines.

Ryanair launches 2 new routes from Copenhagen: Seville and Liverpool

Today Ryanair announced two new routes operating from Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) airport: Seville (SVQ) and Liverpool (LPL)

Even though Ryanair is one of the airline discounters I have never taken, it drives the competition with SAS and others, which in its turn lowers the prices on major airlines. Plus, it is a good option to escape cold and rainy Sweden and enjoy some tapas in Seville.

SAS stops offering newspapers in SAS lounges

March 1st SAS stops offering newspapers and magazines in SAS lounges, EuroBonus members received email with attractive title “London is always calling” with a promotion to book flights to London, Brussels, Edinburgh, Paris and Amsterdam.

And at the bottom of email, in a tiny square SAS announced that it stops offering paper newspapers and magazines in all of their lounges and will substitute it by SAS mobile app newsstand.

SAS has already cut down on 3-rd party lounge access in many European cities, and now continues to count pennies by eliminating such a basic thing as newspapers. Surely, it is not the end of the world, as I personally never even took one from the lounge, but it is alarming as SAS keeps cutting down on things and not offering anything new in return, apart from barely working new SAS website.

Waiting for SAS to stop offering free coffee and tea!
